Meet Kairi Broadhead
Kairi was born on March 31, 2019 and raised in Hawaiʻi. She was an enrolled Cherokee Nation citizen. She has five siblings, and her place in our family will always be hers.
Kairi skipped a grade at Imagine Academy at St. Jude. Even while facing brain cancer, she was learning and moving forward. She deserved so many more years to discover what she could do.
She helped people through birth work alongside me and helped plant many food forests in Hawaiʻi. Her life was connected to caring for people, tending the land, and growing food. At just seven, she had already contributed so much.
Kairi was diagnosed with DIPG/DMG brain cancer on January 22, 2026, and battled for not quite 6 months. She was just seven years old when she died from brain cancer on July 9, 2026.
There is so much I want people to know about her and the life she lived. I want people to know her beyond her diagnosis. Kairi was a daughter, a sister, a student, and a helper. She was part of a family and community that still loves her and feels her absence every day.
I will always be her mama. I will keep saying her name and sharing her story. Kairi lived here. She helped things grow. Her life matters, and she is deeply missed.
